The April 2003 meeting was called to order at 10 AM by Vice-President Dan Byerly. President Grady Price Blount was attending the SRT national convention in Arlington, TX.
Visiting with us was
Rudy 'Tejano' Pena (Tejano_pride@hotmail.com).
Mr. Pena made a presentation on the heritage of Texians and Tejanos with insights on the origin of Tejanos. Mr. Pena is also willing to work with us or help us in any way he can to get the word out in
support of the SRT.
Also discussed was
the Centennial House Celebration and the recent Goliad
event. Dan brought in some of his pictures that were taken at the
Centennial House celebration (excellent pictures).
Both Johnny and John
have completed their applications and are ready for submission. Tom agreed
to get the needed sponsor signatures for both and to get them back to the
candidates.
Our bank account
stands at $581.03, checkbook at $616.23, calculated at $566.23. Tom hopes to
balance out the books before our final spring meeting in May. He has
resubmitted one bounced check for $50.00 from the January banquet. We have one
outgoing checks for $14.80 (for postage) that has not cleared yet. As soon as
these items clear we should balance out. The meeting was adjourned right
about 11:00 AM.
San Jacinto day is on the 21st. of April. There was some discussion of the reenactment events.
Our next regular monthly meeting will be back at the Golden Corral restaurant on South Padre Island Drive near Greenwood (in the Wal-Mart parking lot) at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2003.
