The regular February meeting of the Kinney Chapter, SRT, was called to order to 10:10 AM at the Golden Corral Restaurant on Staples at Williams in Corpus Christi. This was the first meeting of Chapter 17 back on Saturday mornings.
New President Tom Gomez, Jr. led the pledge to the Texas flag and ran through a list of potential activities developed during the last year:
Tom will be looking into the best
way, if possible, to pursue further information on H.L. Kinney’s burial site in
Mexico. He will get in touch with Rosa Gonzales who has done some research
through cemetery records and might be of help to us. He is also investigating
additional information on Ft. Lipantitlan to see if we can be involved in
donating a new marker or perhaps an interpretive type display there.
Tom also sent out an e-mail with
detailed information for the Laredo Parade on February 21st. The
idea of purchasing and building a cannon is still on the fire (sure would be
something we could have a little fun with), but we need someone in the chapter
to ramrod the project. Plus, we still need to arrange for cannon school with
the New Braunfels or Houston chapters. Tom also indicated that he would get
details on this year’s Texas Independence Day events (or lack thereof) at the
Centennial House.
Don’t Forget! The National Convention is in Austin this
year.
